Meanwhile, the vengeful Nome King, still bitter about previous defeats, secretly gathers a formidable army of monstrous creatures (Whimsies, Growleywogs, Phanfasms) and digs a tunnel under the Deadly Desert to invade and enslave Oz. Discovering the plot through her magic picture, Ozma, with the help of the Scarecrow, Wizard, and Glinda, opts for a clever, non-violent defense: they make the invading army drink from the Fountain of Oblivion, wiping their memories and evil intentions, and then Glinda makes Oz invisible and inaccessible to the outside world forever, ensuring its future peace but cutting off contact with Earth.
